I love this brayer technique and it is so easy you will be amazed. Just pick three ink colours, of varying shades, whatever you would like your sky to look like (orange, red, yellow, blue, green, whatever colours work for you). Here I’ve chosen two blues and a grey.
Supplies:
* 8 ½ x 5 ½ Card Stock (here Night of Navy)
* 5 ¼ x 4 Card Stock (here Bordering Blue)
* Paper Cutter/Scorer
* Ruler
* 5 x 3 ¾ Glossy White Card Stock
* Classic Ink (here Night of Navy, Going Grey & Bashful Blue)
* Snail
* Stamps (Winds of Grace, Warmest Regards - Hostess)
* Scissors
* Scrap Paper
* Brayer
* Scotch Tape
* 5 ¼ x 4 Card Stock (here Bordering Blue)
* Paper Cutter/Scorer
* Ruler
* 5 x 3 ¾ Glossy White Card Stock
* Classic Ink (here Night of Navy, Going Grey & Bashful Blue)
* Snail
* Stamps (Winds of Grace, Warmest Regards - Hostess)
* Scissors
* Scrap Paper
* Brayer
* Scotch Tape
Step-By-Step
Step 1 - Cut card base card stock to 8 ½ x 5 ½ and score at 4 ¼ (here Night of Navy).
Step 2 - Cut co-ordinating card stock to 5 ¼ x 4 (here Bordering Blue).
Step 3 - Cut Glossy White card stock to 5 x 3 ¾.
Step 4 - Next, take a piece of scrap paper and rip off one end.
Step 5 - Fold the ripped end of the scrap paper over a bit and insert the glossy card stock. I’ve used a couple of pieces of tape to hold the end of the scrap paper down (see arrows for tape placement).
Step 6 - Next, pick your lightest ink colour and roll the brayer into in. Here I’ve used Going Grey, and since it was a little darker than I thought, I rolled the brayer off once on scrap paper before rolling it back and forth across my glossy card stock.
Step 7 - Clean your brayer between each colour!!
Step 8 - Then take your second darkest colour, and moving the brayer up just a bit (to leave some of the lightest colour) brayer back and forth across the glossy card stock. Here I’ve used Bashful Blue.
Step 9 - Clean your brayer and ink it with your darkest colour, and again moving up a bit to leave some of the other colours, brayer back and forth across the glossy card stock. Here I’ve used Night of Navy.
Step 10 - Now, I need my little sponge dauber, and the dark Night of Navy ink. Leaving the glossy card stock in the folded scrap paper, daub the darkest ink just at the edge of the torn paper – partly on the scrap paper, partly on the glossy card stock and then remove the glossy card stock.
Step 11 - Now we get to the stamps! First I made a scrap stamped image of the ship that I will cut out.
Step 12 - Then we stamp the ship image onto the glossy card stock.
Step 13 - I’ve placed the mask (scrap paper ship) next to the stamped image (above) but now we need to place the scrap ship directly on top of the stamped image on the glossy card stock and get our second stamp, the waves, and stamp along the bottom of the ship.
Step 14 - Remove the scrap paper ship (BTW, this technique is called masking) and add our sentiment, here I’ve used the Happy Birthday stamp from the Warmest Regards Hostess set. As you can see, not everything turns out perfectly, as the sentiment should be a little lower, but that’s part of the charm of a homemade card I suppose.
Step 15 - Next I’ve adhered the glossy card stock to the co-ordinating background and added four silver brads to the corners.
Step 16 - Almost done! Now we need to adhere the ship to the card base, I’ve used my Snail for this.
